The focal points of the estate are its wetlands, nature and dams.
History and Timeline
First construction started in June 2001 and house construction commenced in 2003. The first 10 home owners moved in at the end 2003. During the development of Kenrock Country Estate, many plans had to be put in place. Namely the clearing of alien vegetation and restoring the fynbos areas to adhere to the vision of Kenrock. The restoration of waterways was also of utmost importance due to the natural wetland and mountain streams. The design of the estate needed to accommodate wooden walkways, park areas and bird hides to complete the final concept that makes Kenrock a country living estate.
Mission Statement, Architecture& types of plots
The development of Kenrock has been one of a holistic approach, whereby the architecture and landscaping has resulted in a development conducive to the natural mountain setting. Homes are built in line with surrounding scenery and natural hues of the environment. Development of a unique architectural character has been promoted by the use of natural Table Mountain sandstone, timber and other specific building materials that are common throughout Kenrock. Earthy and natural tones allow buildings to merge with the landscape. Plots vary in size from 803sq.m to 7962sq.m. There are 5 rural plots all of the plots exceeding 4000 square metres per plot.
Unique offerings and features
Kenrock has numerous fynbos species that grow naturally on the estate including the erica family, protea family, restio family, phylica family as well as crassula capensis, oxalis and many others. Gunnera prepensa that’s characteristics can be traced back to the original angiosperms – 95 million years ago - also grow along the waterways. Unique indigenous animals include the mongoose, porcupine, 3 species of tortoise and the rare leopard toad. Cape cormorants are also seen fishing in the dams and the threatened Cape galaxias and Cape karper are thriving and breeding too.
